How Kylie Jenner reportedly makes $1 million per Instagram post 🤑
Kylie Jenner, or more commonly known as the youngest Kardashian, gained her Fame from the reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The show originally started in 2007 when Jenner was only in her early teens. After she grew up and came into her own as an entrepreneur, Kylie went into modeling, and from there she shifted her gears into product development. Now, most of the Kardashians have their finger on the pulse of modeling contracts here and there, and different products from different lines, but Kylie started developing her own line of cosmetics and releasing them via her Instagram account. These cosmetics are extraordinarily popular, and they’re what gained her the amount of financial success that she thrives on today. What most people know about her is the large myth that follows her Instagram account, and posts, that says Kylie Jenner makes about a million dollars per Instagram post. Is this true? Who knows (well I’m assuming she does, but that’s neither here nor there), as for us ordinary people though, we have no idea.

So, the question that you may be asking yourself is what does she sell, how does she get her product out to so many people, and how is she so successful with it? For those answers, let’s break it down from the start. What does she sell? Kylie sells cosmetics that go by the name of Kylie Cosmetics. Yeah, not really an over the top creative name, but it gets the job done… I guess. She purchases her cosmetics from overseas suppliers like DHgate and AliExpress for cheap, then rebrands them to sell on her site. The cosmetics range anywhere from lipstick, lip gloss, eyeliner, blush, (etc., etc., etc.) and cover a wide range of collections that she and her family members create.
Basically, she and her friends and family all came up with their go-to selection of makeup supplies, and she sells those as “collections,” based on whom she created them with. Talk about your keeping it in the family. Think about it, if they each create a collection with her, then go on their Instagram accounts promoting her their collections, it will only bring more business to her cosmetics. I have to give credit where it’s due. I can’t knock the hustle. 👩👩👧
Now, let’s move forward to the second question. How did she get her product out to so many people? Well, the most straightforward answer would be social media. From her success as a reality TV star, she capitalized on that by creating a large social media following. She actually has one of the largest social media followings on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. It’s pretty easy to get your product out to the masses when you have over 126 million followers on Instagram alone. I will allow you a second to take that number in and really absorb the meaning. 👥
You know, like “Wow, 126 million followers. If her sales were just on 1% of her Instagram following count, that’s over $1,000,000 in her pocket. 💰 Can you imagine all of that money? Okay, I’m going to need a moment to fantasize… Alright, moment taken, let’s move on (reluctantly).
Now, for the last question. How is she so successful with it? Well let’s be realistic, it’s not hard to find success when all you need is 1% of your followers to buy your products, as we stated earlier. But it’s more than that. When you start off as a model, it gives you the advantage to post on Instagram about new cosmetics that are released because you yourself can model them for your fans. Every time she comes out with a new line in her collection, she posts it on Instagram and also posts pictures of herself and her family members, who are also models, wearing the products and showing how good they look. It grows a sense of fantasy in the minds of the fans like “If Kylie can look this good with the makeup, then maybe I can too.” To each their own, right. To me it’s a little unrealistic, but, hey, it works, and that’s the point in the end.

Now, you may wonder why this is relevant. You may also wonder why you should really care at all about Kylie and her cosmetic line. But you have to understand; this is meant to show you that Instagram, amongst other social media accounts, can be used to build your brand the same way she used it to build hers. Don’t get me wrong, yes, she had a head start with being on reality TV. However, she’s not the only one that does this on a daily basis and makes a profit from it. And most of these other people aren’t superstars, famous, or at least they didn’t start out that way.
If you want to get your name and brand out into the world, then your best bet is to follow her example when it comes to marketing, not only your product but yourself as well. Social media is about being social. Have you ever heard the saying “If you build it they will come?” The same concept applies. Hell, everybody has to start somewhere, and with the age of social media, you can’t find a better platform than Instagram and Twitter.
How should you get started ⁉️
One sure fired way to get your foot in the door is to expand your following count. Go to different accounts that fit what you’re trying to sell. Whether that be makeup like Kylie, a new weight loss regiment, the latest food Trends, or something as simple as a new song/podcast that you recorded. Whatever it is, you need to make sure that you immerse yourself in the world of whatever you’re trying to break into. Start following specific pages, interacting with the people there, and posting content that fits your product. You don’t have to start selling right away, in fact, you may want to hold off on trying to sell until your follower count is in the thousands. To be exact 10,000 will be ideal, but at the same time, it’s not the definite number.
Your primary goal is to be informed and well-versed enough that people will start to want your content, or be enticed by whatever you’re trying to sell them. Think about it this way, wouldn’t you be more interested in buying something from someone that you’ve seen for a while, and you know that they have knowledge in whatever it is that they’re selling?
